“Standing on the Shoulders of Giants” is an admission of spiritual and intellectual dependence upon those who have come before. It is a recognition of God’s sovereign work throughout Christian history by the illumination of the Holy Spirit. It is a protection from what C. S. Lewis called “chronological snobbery,” valuing only the era in which you live and upholding it as the ultimate standard and possessor of truth. Looking back aids humility, protects from error, strengthens believers, and contends “for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.” Christianity has a rich history that continues to expand as the Holy Spirit moves in men and women committed to the Savior of their souls. This blog is merely a recording or rerecording of God’s work through individuals in history, with occasional musings from myself.
